John Druse "Bud" Hawk
This bronze memorial is to recognize John Druse "Bud" Hawk, who received the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroism on August 20th 1944 during World War II.
John was with the 359th infantry, and manned a light machine gun that day. He and a fellow soldier forced the enemy back after an artillery shell had knocked out his gun and wounded him in the thigh.
In the face of intense German fire, he led the assembly of a working gun from 2 broken machine guns, and directed anti-tank fire that stopped the German Tank advance. By the end of the war John was awarded 4 Purple Hearts.
